Let’s be real. Schools are efficient at teaching core subjects like algebra, but are not so great at teaching students how to handle anxiety or emotional exhaustion. Students are just expected to deal with the stress whilst juggling grades, clubs, sports, jobs, and a whole lot more. Without EQ, students crash.
It’s no surprise that now more than ever students are reporting numerous mental health issues. Even with technology, as years go by academics gets more difficult and the age of learning is becoming increasingly harder. But what if schools taught emotional regulation right alongside subjects such as math or science? What if every student learned how to name their emotions, refrain from negative self-talk, and developed resilience?
EQ isn’t just a gloss over the top. It’s an essential survival skill. It deserves a spot in every curriculum—especially in a generation where burnout is more present than ever.
